This freshwater version of the double Bunny which is tied by Mark Scheimer makes the most of the rabbit hide strips which are commonly known as zonker strips. As a fly tying materila zonker has a lot going for it. The most important feature of this material is its mobility or movement in the water which adds considerably to our attempts to make the fly look alive. Having a natural smell and being readily available in a wide variety of colours are also good points. By using a darker olive over a lighter tone Mark has been able to create the classic baitfish outline, the additions of a red throat/gill and a good sized eye complete the baitfish impression. In order to get your brand spanking new double bunny down to where the bass or perch are feeding you may have to remove some of the air from the rabbit fur by holding it beneath the water and squeezing it for a minute or two. When tied on a stinger hook which is fairly light the double bunny will often be almost neutral in buoyancy and can be matched with a slow, fast sink intermediate or full sinking line in order to fish the correct depth for as long as possible.
