The Bullhead is a deadly new fly tied to imitate a galaxia or other small baitfish, tied with a large clipped wool head, it pushes a lot of water so it is easily detected by fish in low light conditions or coloured water. It can either be cast to fish actively feeding on tiddlers, or fished blind near likely spots like weed beds, gutters or rocky points and outcrops. It also works if stripped in front of fish feeding in wind-lanes, sometimes even in bright conditions. Vary your retrieve to suite conditions and don't be afraid to just let it hang in the water as fish will often take the bullhead on the drop.

Mudulid A hybrid of the muddler and cordulid flies, it imitates an emerging dragonfly nymph (mudeye). Retrieve slowly with a figure eight retrieve with a 2 to 5 second delay between pulls to imitate the slow jerky swimming action of the mudeye, or fish it static as the fish will take it as a moth or other large terrestrial insect. Sometimes the fish will slap the fly with their tail and try to drown it, on these occasions it is best to just keep retrieving the fly normally and lift when you feel the take. Mudeye hatches are probably your best chance to catch a real trophy fish in most lakes. Hottest times are from just before dark until an hour or so after and again in the morning an hour or so before dawn until it starts to get light. The time of year varies in different areas but usually through the summer months or whenever dragonflies are about.

Brett Wolf Dun (chocolate) A darker version of the Brett Wolf Dun (emerger) with a chocolate brown body and hackle. Brett asked me to tie a darker version of his emerger for when the fish get a bit fussy after Christmas. It is probably taken as much for a spinner as a dun but who cares, they take it with relish.

A variation of the Red Tag that rides high in the water and is particularly easy to see.
