The Klinkhammer parachute/emerger flies are one of those patterns that pop up from time to time and really surprise fly fishers with their versatility in much the same way as patterns like the Royal Wulff, Hare & Copper have proven themselves to be world wide fish takers. Klinkhammers are different from many other parachute dry flies in that the thorax of the fly is designed to hang down through the skin of the water to effect an emerging insect. This suspended portion can be tied to match the hatch without changing any other part of the fly by mixing the colour dubbing of your choice on the appropriate size hook - some of the most popular variations are olive, green, grey, tan, rust and white. Rust and olive Klinkhammers have been used with considerable success in the South Island, Victoria and Monaro in recent years and have on occasion outfished all other dry patterns once fish start sucking down emergers. The post has the added bonus of providing a visible point in disturbed waters. "Klinkhammer Light Olive" Tying Recipe Hook: Kamasan B100 or TMC equivalent.
